Leave the Thoughts Behind

In today’s world rumination negatively impacts many people.

Due to the internet, social media, and the constant noise around us it is quite easy to get consumed with constant stimulation. This stimulation usually overwhelms us with many thoughts within our minds that do not direct our gaze to God. These unwanted thoughts and feelings can sometimes cause us to become discouraged or even outright depressed.

St. Teresa of Avila said:

“It isn’t good to let our thoughts disturb us or worry us at all.”

When we become consumed by our ruminating thoughts we prevent ourselves from loving well. We become so focused on our self and our ways that we neglect the people around us. By perpetually analyzing the thoughts and worries inside of our minds, we are habituating ourselves to look in instead of outside ourselves and towards God.

Let us do our best to not let our thoughts disturb us or worry us. We are human and thoughts and worries will come. Everyday we should strive to put the thoughts and worries in their rightful place. Let us fill our mind with good. As it is said in 1 Peter 5:7…

“Cast all your worries upon Him because He cares for you.”
